A lot has been said about good food. Use the tips offered in this article and you can bring your cooking up a notch.

Prepare to cook before you actually start cooking. The wise cook prepares as much as possible before starting to cook. When you’re ready to begin cooking and have set your deadline to finish, you can get really stressed. Try and prepare your ingredients ahead of time to avoid unnecessary stress.

If you need to season your meat, prepare a small portion and taste it prior to cooking the entire amount. It is important not to over-season foods such as hamburger, meatballs and other meat-based dishes. You should not cook the dish entirely after seasoning it. Try cooking a small sample before making all of it. After trying the piece, you can cook the rest of the batch or adjust the seasonings that are needed.

TIP! If you can, do all the preparing of the meal’s ingredients in advance. It is essential to have all prep work finished before it’s time to begin cooking.

It’s very important to have good, sharp knives for cooking. Dull knives are difficult to use and they are dangerous to cut with too. It is easy to cut yourself if you are using a dull knife than slicing it with a very sharp one.

Do you regularly cook with freshly grown basil? Fill an empty glass with fresh basil. With water you then want to cover the stems. Store it on the counter of your kitchen; it will stay fresh for weeks. Most often times, basil will actually take root in water. You can cut the basil every once in a while in order to spur further growth, thereby making basil available for even longer.

You can use it on a variety of foods, not just meat. You can use it when you roast pumpkin or sunflower seeds or in any number of egg dishes. People will be asking you for your secret ingredient!

TIP! If you are learning to cook for yourself or your family, pick up a cookbook from your bookstore or library. Look for one that has basic, easy recipes that will be fun to cook.

If your burgers seem to be sticking to the surface of your grill, it may be hard to take them off without breaking them. You should brush a thin layer of vegetable oil over the grill before you begin cooking. This will keep the food from becoming stuck to the grill surface.

All sugars, flours, and mixes should be stored in airtight containers. Airtight containers will keep your foods safe from bugs, and allow them to stay fresh longer because they are not exposed to air. It is possible to buy these containers almost anywhere and they are well worthwhile.

Flounder

I know, I know. . A movie line is the last place one should pick up cooking tips, but I love love love to cook and I had no idea that you could steam flounder in the dishwasher. Anyone know how. From what I can tell… How about that question? Terrific and it can and does work very well. The first time I had the dish was at a friend’s home and his wife served it. She knows we cook for a living and was very careful about what she prepared. I was astounded, inquired about the dish and said how good it was and when she told me it was cooked in a dishwasher, after disbelief went away, I slurped my wine and listened. Here’s what she told me. She wrapped the filets – not the whole flounder, just the filets – first in parchment paper, available most places, then wrapped it again tightly in aluminum foil and placed the package in the top rack on the side where one usually finds cups. She then turned the washer onto a full, light load cycle and let’er rip. Here the recipe: 3/4 pounds of Sole or ‘Flounder’ filets per person to be served. Sprinkle sole with fresh dill leaves or dried salt and pepper to taste baste filets generously with butter steam in dishwasher Serve with snowflake potatoes – boiled and sprinkled with fresh parsley a green veg like broccoli Enjoy.
